Being Thankful…even through the pain

What a week! If you had told me last Friday that my head would still be hurting this Friday, I would have thought there is absolutely no way I could get through that!

Well…I have gotten through it, even though it has been extremely hard.

I have cried and I have been angry and I have prayed for God to just help me.

The hardest part for me was the four days that I could do nothing. I took pain medicine to help me sleep so I wouldn’t have to feel the pain. I wasn’t able to spend time with my family, no cooking, no sewing, no nothing. Four days of my life just gone. That is hard to accept, especially when you are spending a month trying to change your life and live with purpose. I am trying to let that go and move on.

I have to say that I am very thankful for my husband and my mom. My husband held me and listened to me cry and fuss. He made sure I ate and drank and took my medicine. They both made sure our kids were well taken care of.

One of my co-workers told me this morning that I was so hopeful. I do wake up each morning hoping that the pain will be completely gone. Can’t wait until it actually happens!

I do have hope and my hope comes from my Savior. He has been with me the whole week. He gives me strength and wraps me in His arms when I feel like I can’t take any more. I am weak, but He is strong!

Well it is a new month and it is one of my favorites – one I think I need right now – a month of being thankful.

It is hard to be thankful sometimes. I have to tell you that I am more thankful for some things than I was last week. I am thankful I can spend time with and take care of my family. I am thankful I can get up and go to work. I am thankful I can drive myself where I need to go.

When I get home today, we will start our Thankful Tree…this is something we started last year and enjoyed. Each day we each take a leaf and write something we are thankful for. Last year I had to limit the times Reagan could write Legos. 🙂

Other things I like about this time of year are…relaxing in front of a fire, Georgia football (well, when they are winning), baking, crafts with the kids, and time with the rest of our family, After this past week, I will be even more thankful for these things.

What are your favorite things about this time of year? Do you have a way to show thanks this month?

Blessings to You!

Day 24 ~ Stubborn & Quirky…accepting others the way God made them

Have you ever dealt with a stubborn, quirky child?

My middle child has made it tough to be his mom sometimes over the past 10 years. He has also made me a more patient and understanding mom. One that recognizes that we are all created differently by our Father.

I used to get so upset with him, now I just accept him for who he is. Yes, he can be stubborn and kind of quirky, but he is such a sweet, loving child. He has a dry sense of humor and he loves to draw and build with Legos. He is extremely smart and writes amazing stories.

This morning though we had to deal with the stubborn/quirky part…

It was COLD this morning. The first really cold day we have had. I suggested he put on pants and a jacket or at least a jacket with his shorts. But no, he said you don’t wear a jacket with shorts and he didn’t want to wear pants.

Okay…off we went to my mom’s house. I think he realized it was cold (just like Mom had said) because he wrapped up in a blanket in the car.

My mom had some clothes at her house and he reluctantly picked out some pants to wear. The best part was when he said it was hard to switch from shorts to pants in the middle of the week. This should be something done over the weekend. He also said he wished he lived in a place where he didn’t have to switch back and forth.

I just shook my head and laughed about it when I got in my van. What a boy! Something that most people don’t even think about or care about really bothered him.

He is different and it drives me crazy sometimes, but I love that boy with all my heart! God made him this way for a reason and I look forward to seeing how God uses him.

Do you have a stubborn and quirky child or were you? I’d love to hear from you!

Day 23 ~ Live & Learn

Being a mom is so hard sometimes. You hurt when your child hurts.

My oldest is in 8th grade and at a new school this year. I was so thrilled when he told me he had decided to run for Vice President of his class. He wrote his own essay and had to give a speech to his class. He felt really good about it.

Well they had the election yesterday and he didn’t win. He called me as soon as he got out of school and sounded so sad. I wish I could have waved a magic wand and made him feel better, but I know these experiences are part of growing up.

He feels better today. He knows he is loved and we are so proud of him for trying. I know this is just the beginning though. He is growing up and has so much to go through. I pray that he will look to his Heavenly Father when things get tough…and I will be there to listen and hug him tight.

Day 22 ~ So Very Blessed!

Okay ~ so I didn’t get my post done for yesterday, but let me tell you ~ it was a day full of blessings!

For the past few weeks, I have been working on a website to sell things that I sew and create. It is a dream that I have ignored for a VERY long time. I had not planned to start my business yet (not sure when I would have been ready), but I guess God had other plans.

I put up a picture on Facebook of the infinity scarf I made this weekend and the orders started pouring in. I am still in shock! Thank you to my BFF for placing the first order and boosting my confidence. 🙂

As of right now, I have 12 scarves and 3 burping cloths to make. I also have an order for 20 scarves for a local high school cheerleading squad! I’ve got a lot of sewing to do this week.  I am so very thankful and so very blessed!

Want to see what I have up so far? Not much yet, but I am working on it…Sweet & Simple Blessings.

Day 17 ~ More Like Mary…slowing down to spend time with Jesus

be-still-and-know-that-I-am-God

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10 : 41-42

Are you more of a Mary or Martha?

As women, we have lots of responsibilities. It is so easy to be like Martha…too busy to sit at the feet of Jesus.

I am so guilty of this. I spent so many years getting up and getting my day started, checking off things on my to do list, and then heading to bed. Day after day without spending time with my Savior. I went to church on Sunday, but then left my Bible in my bag all week.

I was saved, but didn’t have a personal relationship with the One who saved me.

I am so thankful for people like Renee Swope, Holley Gerth, Lysa TerKeurst, and Courtney Joseph. Reading their blogs and their books have changed the way I live life.

I used to think…I really need to sit down and read my Bible. Now I can’t wait to spend my quiet time reading my Bible and listening and talking to Jesus. My favorite time is early in the morning, sitting in my chair by the window, and drinking my Spark.

Do you struggle with slowing down…taking time to listen to His voice?

Check out Courtney’s 7 ways to get in the Word. Be creative. Find what works best for you.

One thing that not only helped me read each day but also taught me how to reflect on what I read is the Good Morning Girls online study. You can register for free and even join a group. I am in a Facebook group and we share with each other what we learned from the passage each day. We also share and pray for each other.

Living with Purpose…Let’s all try to be more like Mary each day…slow down and spend time with Jesus.

Day 16 ~ Choosing Joy Through Rejection

Rejection…we have all experienced it. It hurts and it makes you doubt yourself. It opens the door to so many negative thoughts.

Sometimes we go through rejection in our families, sometimes it comes from someone we like, or sometimes it comes when you are putting yourself out there and looking for a new job.

Lately I have been dealing with rejection while looking for a new job. I have gotten several interviews over the past few months. I felt like I was qualified for all of the positions and would have done a great job, but none of the positions were offered to me. I can’t honestly say I really wanted each and every position, but I did like the fact that I would make more money,.

Now I could let all of this rejection make me sad or bitter, but I still choose joy.

If I truly trust my Heavenly Father, then I know He will make things work out like He has planned. Yes, rejection still hurts, but I can just have my quick pity party and then move on.

I choose to focus on all my blessings. I choose to trust that my Father will provide for me and my family. I choose to embrace God’s plan for me.

So the next time you are faced with rejection, remember that God loves you and He has a plan just for you. His plan may not match ours, but I can guarantee that His plan is better and we will be happier.

Day 15 ~ Virtual Laundry Day…helping families in South Africa

Do you dread doing laundry? I don’t really mind the washing and drying, but getting everything back to where it goes is just not fun for me or for my family.

But…What if this was your landry room?

Day 14 ~ A Fall Day…family fun, laughs, pumpkins, and apples

Today I focused on one of the biggest purposes I have here on this earth…my children. I took the day off from work, left social media behind, and headed to the mountains. My Mom and Step-Dad came along too.

What a beautiful day God gave us! Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. I love to ride in the mountains and see the beauty He has created. I also love spending time with my children and making memories with them.

1391571_10201827855765718_1162455196_n

We picked pumpkins and took some fun pictures. Then we rode to an orchard to get some yummy apples. Of course we had to stop by a farm to play on the playground and pet the animals. We got so tickled when we passed by the donkey without petting him. He really let us know he was not happy. Me and my daughter went back to rub him and that made him very happy. I don’t think any of us will ever forget the fuss he made!1381431_10201827863205904_1707147580_n

We now have pretty pumpkins sitting around in our home and we have lots of apples to eat and share. It was another day that I will cherish and be thankful for.

How about you…What is your favorite time of year? What special memories from childhood or with your children do you have?

Living with purpose…one way to do this is making time for the people that matter most.

Blessings to You!
